About Heroes4kids.com
Heroes4kids is about providing educational resources to elementary and primary school teachers, private and charter school teachers, and homeschoolers. Social Studies materials that will be engaging, instructional, and well done. To have resources covering the same subject matter at different difficulty levels to cover the topic for all levels of learners. To engage learning for the visual, the kinetic, and the auditory learner. To create instructional materials that can be used efficiently and with minimal cost to the teacher and the school system.
Heroes4kids is about all levels of heroes:
The Legendary Heroes like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln,
The lesser known like Mary McLeod Bethune and Mary Musgrove
The contemporary heroes in our daily lives – Rep. Gabrielle Giffords or local heroes like
and the controversial heroes – like President Barrack Obama and Hosea Williams
and importantly – the Heroes yet to come – the children – showing connections between today and the heroes of the past – emphasizing the personal characteristics becoming a hero.
Heroes4kids is starting as a web resource for elementary school teachers focusing on the requirements of meeting the Georgia standards for Social Studies. But will rapidly grow to support a broader need for quality free printable classroom worksheets and resources for educators.
Site Dedication
I would like to dedicate this site to all my teachers. Not only the teachers inside the classrooms, but the ones that have mentored me in business, in arts, and in life. I have been touched also by the teachers in my family, my friends, my church, my clubs, and the teachers who only touched me by their written words that have trickled through time to their posterity.
If I tried to name names, I surely would forget someone. There are so many that have been a hero to me – in small ways and in large. You know who you are.
I would like to make a special note to two teachers though:
In loving Memory of Mrs. Sapp of Dalton Elementary Schools – Thank you for the push towards creative writing.
In memory of Dr. Hayward Ellis – Converse College Professor of Theatre – Thank you for the conversations, for listening, and for asking the hard questions
This is also dedicated to our Future Heroes – Our little Stars for America
No one had an easy road. Through facing challenges, you become stronger and find your fortitude of character.
As one of my beloved teachers said:
“Adversity will make you BITTER or BETTER. You choose which.”
Which will you choose?
Read about our heroes of the past. Betsy Ross – a 24 woman , widowed suddenly with the death of her husband in the early days of the American revolution. 2 years later she remarried only to have her husband arrested for treason by the British. So here she was 30 with a newborn baby. Her second husband died in the British jail and first born child dead before it was 1 year old. Did she have it easy?
Read about Cesar Chevez – whose family went bankrupt and lost the family business in the Great Depression when he was a child. Without work, they became homeless migrant farm workers, traveling from job to job. His family spoke only Spanish which made learning in the English speaking schools hard. But he did not give up. He knew “ Yes, it could be done”.
When your moment comes what will you choose? The right choice is seldom the easy road. If it was easy, everyone would do it and it would not be heroic. That is why a person stands out as a hero – they do the right thing despite the risk.
They stand out, they speak up, they take action.
So to your future heroes and those that teach them – I dedicate this website Heroes4kids
